The Heron Sanctuary

The Heron Sanctuary provides an ongoing community of support for people with disabilities once they are inside and trained in Second Life.  It is the first project our organization undertook – and forms the base from which our growth and expansion will occur. 

The Heron Sanctuary offers an environment where people with disabilities can make friends - both with other people with disabilities who "get" what their lives are like, and with non-disabled people who will learn from them, and from whom they will learn also.

The Heron Sanctuary offers members information, encouragement, training, companionship, referrals to other online resources and groups, ways to contribute back to the community, and ways to have fun.

We do a lot of dancing and have parties.  We just hang out at the virtual pool and chat.  We have taken folks to walk in the virtual woods, climb mountains, go virtual skydiving - all kinds of things that are profound and a pleasure to someone with physical or mental limitations.
