The Peale museum in Baltimore collaborated with Virtual Ability, Inc. and Linden Lab (the developer of the Second Life platform) to build and administer a virtual version of the museum.
Based on a 3D model of the National Historic Landmark building, the oldest museum building in the United States, the Virtual Peale hosts exhibitions, events, and tours.
Recent exhibits have featured:
- A profile and works of Moses Williams, an 18th-century artist known for his ability to create detailed silhouettes of people’s faces.
- A contemporary art exhibition by Baltimore media artist, professor, and researcher Lee Boot
- “The Guardians of Baltimore” photo documentary and storytelling project that celebrates the unrecognized community work of Black female leaders from Baltimore City neighborhoods.
- “Redefine/ABLE”, sharing the challenges, successes, and stories of Maryland’s disabled communities.
